FLOATING : Emile Parisien / Yaron Herman / Linda May Han Oh / Prabhu Edouard
In partnership with Anteprima, Poulp and Full Rhizome.
It’s already been said. Émile Parisien takes advantage of his two-year residency at the TCI to explore new combinations of aromas. Pianist Yaron Herman, another Victoire du Jazz winner and chief improviser who wanders with his nose to the wind on the slopes of rock, electro and classical music, is naturally attracted by this promise of alchemy. A disciple of Shankar Ghosh, Prabhu Edouard has accompanied the great names of Indian music. He is also one of the most eclectic of tabla players, supplying rich flavors that have already seduced Jordi Savall, Jeff Mills and Magic Malik. And we predicted a transatlantic breeze for this exceptional concert: it will be the moving Malaysian-born Linda May Han Oh, “one of the most dynamic rising stars in jazz today” (Wall Street Journal), a Grammy winner. Perfect for spicing things up and lending an almost metaphysical note to the combination.

Emile Parisien, saxophone
A soprano saxophone prodigy, Émile Parisien has already won three Victoires du Jazz awards, including Best Album of 2017 with Sfumato. Backed by his luminous Quartet (with Julien Touéry, Ivan Gélugne and Julien Loutelier), which has just released a new album, he also knows how to provoke the unexpected, whether it’s Detroit-style electro jazz (with Jeff Mills) or Norway (Supersilent, Jaga Jazzist), or the L.A. beat scene (Flying Lotus). The same goes for Louise (2022), his recent sextet featuring another brass player, Theo Croker’s trumpet, which often delves into soul or hip-hop. The research residency at the Théâtre de la Cité internationale includes rehearsals on our stages, and three concerts. (artist’s website)

Prabhu Edouard is one of the most eclectic tabla players of his generation. An outstanding disciple of the famous maestro Shankar Ghosh, he has accompanied the great names in Indian music. Linda May Han Oh, bass
Linda May Han Oh is one of the most sought-after bassists in modern jazz. She was one of the musicians in the film Soul (Pixar) and recently won her first Grammy for best instrumental jazz album as a member of Terri Lyne Carrington’s ensemble. As a leader and composer, her projects have gone from strength to strength: in 2019, her album Aventurine combines a jazz band with a string quartet and vocal ensemble for complex, expressive music. The Glass hours, his latest opus, returns to quintet form, with singer Sara Serpa, tenor saxophonist Mark Turner, pianist Fabian Almazan and drummer Obed Calvaire.
